New Work by Aoife

Psalm 150 - attributed to King David

Psalm 150 - attributed to King David

This is my most recent commission and took 2 months to complete. The piece is entitled “Laudete Dominum” or Psalm 150.  Psalm 150 can be found in the Book of Psalms in the Old Testament and is closely associated with King David. The words of Psalm 150 are taken from the King James Version of the Bible.

The work is in the style of a sheet from an old Medieval musical hymn book, the musical notes mainly for decoration of the whole. The paper has been treated to achieve the look of an old weathered piece of parchment and part of the gold and silver ink has been scraped off to weather the effect.  The lettering is in Medieval Gothic style with a large decorative capital for the first letter in each sentence.  The large letters are decorated in gold ink with watercolour paint in navy and pink. The border is laid on a navy-blue background with  gold, silver and blue inks for the floral and muscial decoration. The vines are intertwined with flowers and musical symbols which are mentioned in the Psalm.

I’ve enjoyed working so much on this piece and miss it greatly since I handed it to the new owner! Luckily it’s someone I know so I can visit sometime soon! I never usually miss a piece of work like this and really didn’t want to give it away!
